The history of Wismut Aue and FC Erzgebirge Aue =============================================== Aue is a town located in the eaern part of Germany. Wismut is the German word for bismuth. Wismut Aue was the team of a Soviet Union-East German uranium mining company. 1950/51 promoted to DDR-Oberliga (1st DDR League) 1951/52 7th (of 19) 1952/53 2nd (of 17) Dynamo Dresden and Wismut Aue finished the season with the same number of points. Aue lost the championship deciding game 2:3 aet. 1953/54 4th (of 15) From 1954 on till 1991 the DDR Oberliga conisted of 14 teams. In 1954 some strange changes happened. Some clubs moved from one city to another one: Dynamo Dresden -> Dynamo Berlin (now FC Berlin) Dynamo Berlin was the team of the secret police "Stasi". The new team of Dynamo Dresden started in the 2nd League. Empor Lauter (Saxony) -> Empor Rostock (now Hansa Rostock) There were too many teams form Saxony in the Oberliga! Wismut Aue -> Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt Wismut Aue were delegated to Karl-Marx-Stadt, however they wanted to stay in Aue. So for some years they played as Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt, however, they still played in Aue. Note: In the 50s the DDR government decided to rename Chemnitz to Karl-Marx-Stadt.
